The Region 6 and Mid-South wrapped up the 2016 -2017 season with the annual awards banquet and meeting on May 20th.
The Region 6 and Mid-South All-Age winner was Touch’s Fire Dancer handled by Keith Wright. May is a four year old English Pointer out of Touch’s Pond Dam and Whippoorwill GMA. Keith and May amassed 478 point to take the title of All-Age Dog of the Year. Second went to Touch’s Smooth Rider and Keith Wright. The third place dog was Dialed In and Jim Pendergest.
Region 6 Shooting Dog of the Year was Rebel Patriot. “Bert”, as Patriot is better known as, is owned and handled by David Williams. Bert is a six year English Pointer out of Dakota Mystery and Rebelmore. Patriot secured his top dog position with 298 points. David Steel and Walden’s Ridge Country Girl came in second and Game On and Kent Walker were in the top three.
Aided by Kent Walker, Game On did take it to the top with 105 points to take Shooting Dog of the Year for the Mid-South. Lolita with Scott Little took second in points in the Mid-South. A tie came in for third in points for the Mid-South with Waldens’ Ridge Country Girl and David Steel and Windy Hill War Creek for Buddy Morrison.
The Derby winner for both Region 6 and the Mid-South was Misty Morn Masked Man owned and handled by Joey McAlexander. Tonto is out of Miller’s Dialing In and Mac’s Inspiration. Tonto took the lead in the points early and never looked back. He road to the winners circle with 150 points in Region 6 and 138 points in the Mid-South. Hodge’s Beastmode and Brian Hodges took second in both Region 6 and the Mid-South while the third points place was secured by Last Touch B and Marion Brown.
The Region 6 Sportsman of the Year award winner was Amy Spencer. Amy’s hard work and dedication to the sport is greatly appreciated by many throughout the country. Amy diligently maintains the Region 6 Webpage and Facebook page that keeps everyone informed of upcoming trials, results, and point standings.
This year’s event, as it has for many years were held at the Bird Dog Museum. The Museum is a first rate venue in which to hold this yearly meeting and award banquet. Region 6 and the Mid-South are thankful for Tonya Brotherton and her staff for making this yearly event special in every way.
There are not many if any field trials in Region 6 and the Mid-South that are not touched in some way by the support and generosity of Sportsman Pride and Brad Kennedy. Sportsman Pride through the ever present Brad Kennedy are always ready to help in getting a field trial put together.
